Freescale Semiconductor has made its popular CodeWarrior™ Development Studio more accessible by speeding access to powerful software development tools while improving ease of use.
Fast track certified CodeWarrior™ Version 5.0 Development Studio for Freescale Semiconductor HC(S)08 8-bit microcontrollers has none of the complexities that are typically associated with powerful and complete software tools.
When designing with Freescale’s 8-bit products CodeWarrior has numerous advantages over similar products, some of which are;
The ability to create projects based on application-specific requirements
Users can choose to create a simple project (e.g. absolute assembler) or a complex multi-developer project
Initialisation code and drivers can be configured and automatically generated for the application, allowing engineers to focus on the value added elements of a design
Simplified porting – an application can be ported to a larger or newer micro with just a few clicks
As a result, embedded system developers can ensure that projects run on time and on budget in order to meet the target market window.
New Features
A key feature of the new version of CodeWarrior is its ‘new look’ startup dialogue box, which gives users immediate access to the project wizard, example projects and tutorials. The project wizard has been restructured to be more logical and intuitive, while the ability to start a new project in as little as seven mouse clicks significantly enhances usability.
New Projects can be Started with as few as Seven Mouse Clicks
There are over 100 example projects included with the tool, all of which are accessible from the startup dialogue box - and any of these example projects can be used as templates on which a designer can base an application.
The popular ‘Getting Started’ tutorials have been expanded to a C and Assembler tutorial, a C and Assembler with device initialisation tutorial, and a processor expert tutorial. All the user documentation and help files have been rewritten for ease of reference. A ‘Tip of the Day’ feature has also been added.
Device selection has been simplified so that the target device can be changed for another HC(S)08 device after the project has been created. Connection selection is also simplified, and this too can be changed after the project has been created. Another feature to aid the connection to hardware is the new Connection Manager tool. This tool auto-configures the debugger from the connected HC(S)08 hardware and provides a step-by-step guide to correct any connection failures.
The new Device Initialisation Tool has been simplified for ease of use. The tool can generate C and Assembler code and has the option for engineers to add code to one project from another, or to create text files. Finally, CodeWarrior version 5.0 has a ‘Pack-and-Go’ capability to enable easy project sharing.
CodeWarrior version 5.0 (Special Edition) is free to use for up to 16K of code and is free to download.
