Camera Link Connector Suits Small Situations

The new Shrunk Delta Ribbon (SDR) miniaturised connector solution from 3M provides an interface for Camera Link™ applications that require small size, without sacrificing transmission performance. It uses the same reliable ribbon contact system and polarised steel shell as 3M’s successful Mini Delta Ribbon (MDR) interface, in a condensed 0.8mm package.

These new Camera Link solutions are comprised of board-mount connectors and cable assembly variations developed to address the migration to smaller interface requirements. They are constructed of a rugged, over-mould shell with a reliable thumbscrew locking system. The assemblies have been developed to address the multitude of options now available with the introduction of mini Camera Link (mini CL).



In addition to its standard Camera Link assembly offering, 3M has added two new assemblies. The first is an over-mould, right-angle configuration that provides a low profile, thumbscrew interface. The right-angle option reduces the assembly profile by over 100mm when compared to traditional straight-exit back shell options.

The second new feature is an extender assembly that is used for adding length to existing cables or providing a means for transition through a bulkhead/ mid-span requirement. The extender cables feature over-mould MDR receptacles.

Assemblies are available in standard 2m, 5m and 10m lengths with 28AWG IDC terminations. Standard Camera Link or custom pin-outs are available.

The new SDR products join 3M’s existing range of high-speed solutions that include the High Speed Mini Delta Ribbon (HS MDR) solutions. These integrated, high-density, fully shielded connector and cable systems are designed for high-level input/output applications where space is at a premium and high speed data transmission is required. The HS MDR system utilises a pre-loaded ribbon style contact as a durable alternative to the more fragile pin and socket style, high density D-sub system.
