Pre-Tested ISM-Band Transceiver Modules are ‘RF on Tape and Reel’ Solutions
Small products for use in Asia and Europe
Micrel’s MICRF610 and MICRF620 are the latest in its family of low-power RadioWire® radio modules. Designed to operate in the unlicensed 433MHz and 868MHz bands, they are aimed at the building control, industrial automation and advance remote control markets.
These new RadioWire RF modules for Asian and European ISM frequencies are supplied pre-tested, so that customers need only perform functional testing. This reduces the production start-up cost to a fraction of what is normally needed, making the modules essentially ‘RF on tape and reel’ solutions.
The MICRF610 and MICRF620 are self-contained Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) transceiver modules, intended for use in half-duplex, bidirectional RF links. The modules also feature an ultra-small footprint of 11.5mm x 14mm. They are aimed at customers with small production runs or who may lack the expensive capital equipment such as spectrum and network analysers necessary to design RF circuits.
The modules are the smallest, most cost-effective transceiver solutions in the Micrel range. They are easy-to-operate, feature a small form factor and adhere to the European Telecommunication Standard Institute (ETSI) specification, EN300 220. The streamlined, ‘drop-in design’ of the modules enables customers to quickly realise new products by taking a more time-effective and cost-conscious ‘cut and paste’ approach to their RF reference designs.
Code-compatibility with Micrel’s popular MICRF505 and MICRF506 transceivers enables an easy migration path from module to an IC-based solution. The company’s entire line of RF modules is designed to decrease time-to-market by minimising RF and communications system variables such as RF matching, data rate and RF layout. It covers the entire range of worldwide sub-Gigahertz ISM frequencies, and allows customers to add wireless connectivity to their products whilst using the same motherboard for markets and applications on a global basis.
