Multi-Channel 15Mbaud Optocouplers Provide High-Density Isolation

Full duplex and bidirectional operation
Avago Technologies’ ACSL-6xx0 multi-channel optocouplers are truly isolated and bi-directional, high-speed monolithic devices. With speeds of up to 15Mbaud in small packages, they are suited to applications such as isolating data conversion devices, parallel buses and peripheral interfaces.

These couplers provide full duplex and bi-directional isolated data transfer and communication capability in compact 8-pin or 16-pin SOIC packages. This high channel density is achieved via Avago's patented manufacturing technology for stacking LED dice and an insulating layer on a silicon substrate.

The ACSL-6xx0 range can accommodate a wide range of supply voltages, from 3.0V to 5.5V. The components allow designers to reduce parts count, board space and system costs in a wide range of applications by replacing several one- or two-channel digital optocouplers with a smaller, more compact solution. In computer systems, the Avago ACSL series optocouplers provide the benefits of reduced part count and board space for parallel interfaces and serial interfaces such as RS232/485/422, SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), and Philips’ Inter-Integrated Circuit (I²C) bus. They offer the same benefits in industrial, test and measurement, and medical systems for PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), fieldbus interfaces and data acquisition; in communications applications such as PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) and networking boards; and for plasma display panels and other consumer appliances.

Specified for operation over the temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, the optocouplers have also proved successful in medical systems where they isolate address lines between the microprocessor and the system interface.

Avago's ACSL-6xx0 series optocouplers exhibit high common-mode rejection of 10kV/µs minimum. They are designed to meet the most widely accepted international safety regulations: UL1577 (2500V RMS), CSA Component Acceptance Notice No 5, and IEC/EN/DIN EN60747-5-2.
