UK Seminars Provide Hands-on Training in Development of Embedded Solutions for Small TFT Displays

Seminars offer access to latest Sharp ARM processors and a range of TFT displays
Arrow UK is offering engineers an opportunity to learn how to develop and implement embedded solutions for small TFT applications. Two seminars, the first to be held at Arrow’s regional office in Reading, Berkshire, on 12th June and the second in Leeds on 14th June, will feature practical, hands-on training focussed on interfacing a 3.5-inch 1/4 VGA TFT screen to a Sharp ARM processor, via a dedicated development kit.

Attendees will be able to hone their skills using a combination of development kits and tools from Logic Product Development (LogicPD) and state-of-the-art Hitachi TX09D70 3.5-inch 1/4 VGA TFT display modules. The LogicPD development kits are based around the Sharp LH79524, one of Sharp’s Blue Streak range of ARM SoCs. These SoCs support a variety of industrial and consumer applications with exceptional levels of performance, integration and flexibility.

The Hitachi TX09D70, launched in September 2005, delivers a 22% increase in brightness over previous models with no increase in power consumption. This makes it ideal for outdoor and high ambient light environments, and therefore highly suited to applications such as portable hand-held and GPS devices.

Within the seminar Arrow Electronics UK Ltd will give an outline of the types of TFTs the development kits can drive, as there will be a range of TFT demonstrations to check out and play with.

As well as gaining valuable practical experience with leading-edge technology, delegates will obtain an overview of the ways in which IAR Systems development tools can simplify and speed the product development process for target applications.

In support of the Arrow seminars, Phaedrus Systems (IAR’s UK distributor) is offering extended, free usage of IAR’s EWARM dedicated compiler, in addition to a selection of free JTAG tools. Attendees at each of the one-day sessions will also have the chance to win a complete development kit including the LogicPD board, Hitachi TFT, JTAG tool and relevant adapters. Up to three kits will be on offer at each venue.

At just £25 per head including lunch and refreshments, the seminars represent excellent value for money. Attendees just need to bring a laptop with an RS232 port (or a suitable USB to RS232 Adapter).
