SAW Filters First Choice for Communications

Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) designs and manufactures a wide range of standard and custom Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters. The company’s design expertise, in combination with Class-10 wafer fabrication facilities and high-volume assembly, enables it to produce submicron devices to satisfy rigorous performance and cost requirements for numerous applications.

SAW filters are the natural choice for optimum performance in leading-edge communications equipment. They produce repeatable specifications and are highly reliable and rugged, making them suitable for both commercial and military environments.

SAW filters are specified by a number of attributes, of which Centre Frequency (F_c in MHz) is the most fundamental. The designer must also stipulate Passband Bandwidth (BW_P); Insertion Loss (IL); Amplitude Ripple (A_r); Phase Ripple (F_r in degrees) or Group Delay Deviation (GDD in nanoseconds); Rejection Level (R); and Rejection Bandwidth (BW_R).



IDT’s range of low-loss IF filters in surface mount packages includes the popular 70MHz and 140MHz standards. The company still carries many of these filters in the original high selectivity editions in leaded packages. These are very commonly used in IF applications within cellular base stations for CDMA, CDMA2000, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA networks. Each base station may require up to 24 filters.

The company also offers RF filters ranging in frequency up to 2GHz, and a variety of delay lines and resonators.
