Optimises trade-off between switching and conduction losses
Fairchild Semiconductor’s FGA25N120ANTD 1200V NPT-trench IGBT offers best-in-class avalanche immunity whilst retaining an optimised combination of switching and conduction losses, to increase system reliability and efficiency in Induction Heating (IH) applications.
Designed for use in microwave ovens, IH rice cookers and other IH cookers, the FGA25N120ANTD can reduce system operating temperatures by up to 10°C when compared with previous-generation devices. The result is enhanced reliability and extended system lifetime.
The IGBT uses Fairchild’s proprietary trench technology and Non-Punch Through (NPT) technology. This optimised cell design and thin wafer fabrication process allows the FGA25N120ANTD to withstand up to 450mJ of avalanche energy, thus ensuring fail-safe operation in abnormal avalanche-mode conditions. The consequence is better resistance to unstable power conditions, AC line surges and system malfunctions, which might otherwise lead to instantaneous device failure.
The FGA25N120ANTD also exhibits low saturation voltage of 2.0V, resulting in reduced conduction losses; and low typical switching losses of 0.96mJ for increased overall energy efficiency. A built-in Fast Recovery Diode (FRD) simplifies circuit design and reduces component count.
The device is available in a TO-3P lead- (Pb-) free package and meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B; it is also compliant with European Union requirements now in effect.
