Enhanced Plastic Offers Extended Temperature Range and More Traceability
Wide range of products
National Semiconductor has released a line of Enhanced Plastic (EP) products which are designed to be a cost-effective solution for requirements beyond the standard limits of commercial grade components. Drawn from the full range of National’s product offering, the EP range offers the traceability and extended temperature operation required in demanding environments.
The devices are catalogue products, released with an extended temperature range, along with qualification and reliability data, configuration control, Process Change Notification (PCN) facilities and solder lead finish required by OEMs in high-reliability markets. The launch of EP products gives customers the means to facilitate their internal qualification of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) devices.
EP devices will have their own datasheets, and will offer customers the controlled baseline they require: in particular, employing a single wafer fabrication site and a single assembly and test site. They offer extended temperature performance, up to -55°C to +125°C in some cases, with a guarantee from National that they will perform to datasheet electrical specifications within that range.
They are supplied with a tin-lead lead finish as standard, suiting them for applications that are exempt from RoHS compliance, and for use by OEMs which need to continue using a lead-based soldering process.
Initially available products will include a variety of National’s op-amps and comparators; SMD temperature sensor; JTAG access device; switching regulators and LDOs; and Frequency-to-voltage converters. The company plans to extend its EP offering in the near future, with the addition of further amplifier and comparator products; DC/DC converters; battery charge controllers; bus transceivers; further buck/boost converter and LDO offerings; more voltage regulators; line drivers; and voltage references.
