T-VIPS, the Norwegian-based manufacturer of real-time video-over-IP solutions for the professional broadcast market, has won the country’s inaugural ‘Vebjørn Tandberg Prize’.
Announced at Arrow Norway’s annual customer seminar held recently in Oslo, this prestigious prize for innovation and entrepreneurship in the electronics industry sees T-VIPS win 250,000NOK (about €32,000). The company will also benefit from business support and incentives worth 100,000NOK (about €13,000) from Innovation Norway (Innovasjon Norge), a department of the Norwegian government.
Named in honour of the Norwegian electronics entrepreneur, Vebjørn Tandberg – founder of Tandberg, the radio company that went on to become a leader in videoconferencing technology – the prize is a joint initiative involving Arrow and other key organisations in the Norwegian electronics industry.
Bengt Thuresson, vice chairman of Tandberg Television, presented the prize to CEO Johnny Dolvik, who founded T-VIPS in 2004. The company secured the prize against stiff competition thanks to a combination of technical innovation and business potential, including the company’s proven ability to address the needs of the global marketplace.
The committee that judged the entries for the prize was made up of leading figures from Norway’s electronics industry, namely: Karl-Christian Agerup, partner, Northzone Venture; Bjørn Ø. Andersen, editor, Elektronikk; Knut Dommersnes, sales director Arrow Norway; Ole Jørgen Fredriksen, chairman of Q-Free and founder of ASK; Hans-Christian Haugli, CEO, Telenor R&D; Astrid Langeland, senior consultant, Innovasjon Norge; Per Sønsteby, managing director, Hadelandprodukter AS (HAPRO); and Einar Aas, professor, Institute for Electronics and Telecommunications, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim.
