Three-Channel Optical Encoders Combine Performance and Cost-Effectiveness
‘One size fits all’ offers many resolutions from single hardware platform
The new AEDA-3300 family of optical incremental encoders from Avago Technologies combines high performance with cost-effectiveness and offers ultra miniature package size with wide resolution ranges from 600 to 20,000 Cycles Per Revolution (CPR). These three-channel devices are suitable for use in motion control and industrial automation applications including robotics and production machinery.
The AEDA-3300 series is designed to provide a ‘one size fits all resolutions’ platform that eliminates the need for multiple designs, cutting costs and speeding time-to-market. Their flexibility is further enhanced by their small size (17mm diameter x 24mm high) and a range of mounting options.
The devices use transmissive encoder technology to sense rotary position, achieving high reliability and resolution while offering easy assembly. Outputs provided are two quadrature channels and a third gated index signal, at voltage levels from -0.5V to Vcc and with current drive capability of up to 20mA. Rise and fall time is typically 4ns.
As the AEDA-3300 encoders are designed for high temperature (-40°C to +125°C) and high operating frequency range (up to 1MHz or 650kHz), they are well suited for industrial automation and motion control applications. They require a single 4.5V to 5.5V power supply, and can sense rotational speeds of up to 12,000 RPM.
Packaged in a zinc alloy housing which is finished with electroless nickel plating, the AEDA-3300 is shock- and vibration-tested to IEC 68-2-27 and IEC 68-2-64.
