Aluminium Electrolytics raise the bar in performance versus cost
Panasonic Electronic Devices' newest family of Aluminium Electrolytic Snap-in style Capacitors, the TS-EE series, addresses the most important issue power circuit design engineers face: effectively handling potentially high ripple current levels in the smallest size devices possible.
The new components therefore offer both very high ripple current capabilities and the smallest physical size per C/V achievable. These electrical and physical characteristics make them well-suited for today’s demanding compact designs in both power and inverter circuitry.
The TS-EE series has proven to be very effective when used in continuous run applications and where ambient operating temperatures are high. These new devices are available with working voltage ratings of 200V, 250V, 400V and 450V: the values commonly used in power designs. Capacitance values range from 75µF to 1800µF with ±20% tolerance. The devices are rated for use across a wide temperature range.
Guaranteed life is 3000 hours at 105°C with maximum rated ripple applied. Can sizes offered range from 22mm x 25mm to 35mm x 50mm; devices are available in both two-pin and three-pin styles.
For example, in a motor/compressor inverter application (see figure 1), an old technology 400V, 270µF component with a 35mm x 30mm footprint and 1.20A RMS ripple current capability at 120Hz, can be replaced by a physically smaller (25mm x 30mm) 180µF TS-EE component, which can handle 1.33A RMS at the same frequency.
