Resistors Minimise Error Budget Under Load and Extreme Conditions 
Long-term stability of ±0.005% and TCR below ±0.2ppm/°C

The new VSMP series of ultra-high-precision, surface-mount Bulk Metal® Z foil resistors from Vishay Intertechnology combines power ratings of up to 750mW at 70°C, long-term stability down to ±0.005%, and very low typical TCR of <±0.2ppm/°C.

These ultra-high-precision surface-mount devices also provide excellent Power Coefficient of ±5ppm at rated power, and tight tolerance of ±0.01%. They are designed for applications such as automatic test equipment; high-precision instrumentation; laboratory, industrial, and medical equipment; high-end stereos; electron beam scanning and recording equipment including electron microscopes; and military, space, airborne, and downhole instruments and communications systems.



Vishay's Bulk Metal Z Foil technology provides a significant reduction of the resistive component's sensitivity to ambient temperature variations and applied power changes. This high level of stability, more than an order of magnitude better than that offered by thin film technology, allows designers to attain a high degree of accuracy in fixed-resistor applications.

The VSMP series consists of five resistors that span a range of surface-mount case sizes from 0805 to 2512, maximum power ratings of 200mW to 750mW, and a resistance range of 10Ω to 150kΩ, with lower and higher values available by request. They achieve excellent load-life stability of ±0.01% at maximum power, and even greater stability of ±0.005% at decreased power.

The components also feature a low thermal EMF of less than 0.05µV/°C, voltage coefficient below 0.1ppm/V, inductance lower than 0.08µH, and response time faster than 1ns. The noise generated by these resistors is less than -40dB (essentially noise-free).

A robust conventional wrap-around termination and top coating ensures safe handling during the mounting process and provides stability during the multiple thermal cyclings the device will experience over its lifetime. Both lead (Pb)-free and tin/lead alloy terminal finishes are available. Matched resistor sets are available by request.
