Avago Technologies’ new ASMT-Mx00 InGaN high-power LED is a high flux output device in an SMT package, suitable for automated assembly. It is intended for use in ultra-high-brightness applications such as flashlights, reading lamps, architectural and garden lighting.
Available in green, blue and phosphor white variants, this 1W device measures just 8.5mm x 15.6mm x 3.3mm high, making it one of the industry’s thinnest available LEDs. It offers brighter illumination (typically 40 lumens for the green version, 10 lumens for blue and 35 lumens for white) and better reliability than competing products.
Constructed using a heat- and UV-resistant silicone encapsulant, the LED is well-protected to provide a trouble-free, long operating life and has a JEDEC Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) rating of 2A, placing it among the best in the high-power LED market. The same features give the device a floor life of up to four weeks (at 30°C and up to 60% relative humidity), giving customers more flexibility in planning their production schedules.
With an exposed die-attach pad design, heat easily flows out of the LED region, helping to achieve a very low package thermal resistance of 10°C/W. This, along with its slim package profile and smooth radiation pattern, makes the ASMT-Mx00 suitable for many solid state lighting applications. In addition, its combination of features is likely to enable new lighting applications, such as brilliantly-backlit signs, no thicker than a picture frame.
