The TDK511xF series from Infineon is a family of high-power ASK/FSK transmitters which require very few external components. The devices are ideally suited to M2M communications applications such as remote control systems, alarm systems, Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM) systems and general-purpose communications.
Available in three frequency-range versions – 311MHz to 317MHz, 433MHz to 435MHz and 868MHz to 870MHz – the devices contain a fully-integrated PLL synthesiser and a high-efficiency power amplifier to drive a loop antenna.
A special circuit design and a unique power amplifier design are used to save current consumption and therefore to increase battery life. Additional features such as power-down mode and divided clock output are implemented to further reduce power consumption.
The on-chip PLL synthesiser consists of a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), an asynchronous divider chain, a phase detector, a charge pump and a loop filter. The tuning circuit of the VCO, consisting of spiral inductors and varactor diodes, is also integrated on-chip.
The ICs can be used for both ASK and FSK modulation. They are characterised for use across the extended -40°C to +125°C temperature range, and supplied in a space-saving 10-pin TSSOP.
