POWER AND LINEAR IC SOLUTIONS
Driver and Two Fast MOSFETs in a Single PowerPAK MLF Package
Optimised for PWM operation

Four new MOSFET-driver chips from Vishay Intertechnology, the SiC714CD10, SiC711CD10, SiC730CD9 and SiC734CD9, simplify the design of single and multiphase PWM-style DC/DC converters. Designers can reap a further benefit of using these integrated solutions, in the form of a significant (2%) increase in efficiency compared with the use of discrete components.

The chips integrate the control MOSFET, the synchronous MOSFET, and driver circuit in low-profile, low-inductance 9mm x 9mm and 10mm x 10mm PowerPAK MLF packages. The use of an integrated solution minimises stray inductance and guarantees an optimised matching between the components, hence reducing switching and conduction losses. These benefits come in addition to the well-known advantages of integrated devices: simpler system design, layout, assembly and testing.

The SiC714CD10, working from a 3.3V to 16V input, delivers a continuous current of up to 27A in still air and is optimised for a 10% duty ratio. Typical on-resistance values are 3mΩ for the low-side and 10.2mΩ for the high-side MOSFET.

The SiC711CD10, delivers up to 25A (rated for a 40% duty ratio). Typical on-resistance values are 4mΩ for both the high- and low-side MOSFETs.

All four devices are optimised for 12V to logic level conversion and are rated for use at switching frequencies from 100kHz to more than 1MHz. The PowerPAK's low thermal impedance and its simple pad geometries enable straightforward board layout and assembly.

Break-before-make operation provides shoot-through immunity and minimises dead time. These devices also feature Under-Voltage LockOut (UVLA). An internal bootstrap diode further reduces the number of external components required.

The low-side MOSFET can be individually enabled or disabled. This is beneficial at system start-up to prevent sinking current coming from a pre-charged output capacitor.
