Flash Micros Provide Cost-Effective High-Efficiency Motor Control
32-bit TriCore™ architecture
The TC116x series 32-bit Flash microcontrollers from Infineon are designed for demanding real-time control applications. The devices can replace conventional solutions which require a separate microcontroller, DSP and PWM ASIC, boosting power efficiency, reducing system costs by up to 40%, and cutting board space, system size and complexity.
The devices are based on Infineon’s 32-bit TriCoreT™ architecture, which combines RISC, CISC and DSP functionality in a single chip. As well as cutting chip-count, this allows engineers to build an entire application under a single development environment, dramatically reducing design complexity and the need for additional firmware.
In addition to their high-performance CPU, the devices include up to 1.5Mbyte of embedded Flash memory. The peripheral offering includes a flexible timer (GPTA®), which enables scalable motor control solutions and autonomous high-speed PWM generation for maximum efficiency in motor drives and industrial controls.
In addition to PWM generation, the controllers offer fast multi-channel ADCs, an optional MultiCAN module, asynchronous and synchronous serial interfaces and a Micro Link Interface (MLI) for a second controller. They span the full spectrum of performance, from cost-effective low-end devices to chips with 100MIPS processing power and up to 1.5Mbit Flash memory.
The TC116x series can address demanding industrial applications such as high-performance AC and DC drives and servo drives. These are used for the precise control of electric motors in machines and manufacturing processes, generic industrial control such as factory automation equipment, and robotics. Adding an electronic drive to a motor not only increases performance; it can also cut power consumption by up to 20%.
The devices operate at a 1.5V core supply voltage with 3.3V I/O. They are supplied in low-cost PG-LQFP packaging, characterised for an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
