Robust Low Reflection Displays Provide High Visibility
Reflections cut to 0.2% of ambient with increased mechanical stability
Combining Sharp’s Strong2 technology with the use of a special anti-reflective coating, the LQ104V1DG64, LQ121S1DG64 and LQ150V1LGB4 industrial TFTs provide almost total extinction of disruptive light reflections and increased mechanical stability. Offering brightness of up to 450cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 600:1, these displays are particularly suitable for use in mobile instrumentation, outdoor and indoor vending machines and information terminals.
Available in 26.4cm (10.4inch) VGA, 31cm (12.1inch) SVGA and 38.1cm (15.0inch) XGA versions, the new displays are based on the Strong2 model launched at the start of 2006. This basic structure has been extended with the addition of a standard 2mm layer of acrylic glass or, optionally, 0.7mm to 6mm-thick acrylic glass, depending on customers’ requirements.
The displays use a special coating which works according to the 'Lambda ¼' anti-reflection principle: incident light is reflected directly onto the screen surface and onto the surface of another layer which is a quarter of a wavelength below the first one. As light travels through the top layer, there is a double phase displacement of the light wave in relation to the wave directly reflected at the surface. This half-wavelength phase difference creates an extinguishing top surface and therefore cuts out almost all reflection.
In the case of the LQ104V1DG64, LQ121S1DG64 and LQ150V1LGB4, this structure reduces reflection to just 0.2% of the incident light: compared to around 2% attained with conventional anti-reflection technology.
Low-Reflection Coating for Perfect Clarity: The lambda ¼ anti-reflection principle
The low-reflection TFTs exhibit higher brightness and contrast values than competing products, thanks to innovations in ativation, selection of glass and design of the backlight system. Background lighting for all Strong2 modules is provided by CCFL tubes with a service life of at least 50,000 hours in continuous operation. By comparison, current standard backlights offer half-life periods of 25,000 to 40,000 hours.
Strong2 TFTs also offer increased robustness in thermal behaviour and better resistance to mechanical stress. They can withstand acceleration of up to 2g in a vibration test, and up to 50g in impact tests. New materials for polarisers and liquid crystals also provide an extended operating temperature range from -30°C to +80°C.
