SMT Fully Shrouded Boxed Headers Suit Broad Range of Applications

3M has launched a range of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) low-profile fully-boxed headers (four-wall) to suit a broad range of PCB applications. The SMT version complements the company’s very popular through-hole header range and allows for much faster production output.



Bringing the 3M SMT boxed header to users assembling PC boards, particularly on high-volume assembly lines, will provide savings in overall production costs by allowing them to use high-speed pick and place methods.

The 2500 SMT series is available with a broad range of accessories, making these headers suitable for a variety of applications. Accessories include long latches or retainer clips to ensure that the mated connectors are held securely: these are especially useful in vibration/motion applications. The company also offers polarising keys to ensure the connectors are not inadvertently mis-matched.

As well as being of industry standard configuration, the headers can also be used in conjunction with 3M board-mount sockets and plug connectors. The SMT 2500 series complements the existing N2500 series, which is designed for through-hole applications.

The introduction of the range of SMT headers adds to the extensive portfolio of interconnect products from 3M. As well as leading the UK market in IDC connectors, 3M has focused on creating solutions that meet the many and diverse needs of today’s electronics markets, including chemicals, tapes, adhesives and analytical services.
