Inductors Suit Motion Control and Motor Drives

Bourns offers a wide range of power inductors which can be used in all kinds of application within the motion control market.

In many cases driver and motor applications require components which can handle higher power. Bourns has recently introduced the SRP series which includes 12 models from 7mm to 13mm in size. These inductors can handle currents of up to 50A due to improvements in materials technology and an ongoing development programme which has reduced the DC Resistance (DCR) to well below 1.0mΩ.

Motion controller applications typically require inductors with lower current ratings than those used in motor drivers. 'Shielded' power inductors such as the Bourns SRU series are the preferred solution for such applications. The current range of 12 components in 3mm, 5mm, 8mm and 10mm sizes will be supplemented in March 2007 by 10 new models, including 2mm and 6mm devices.

Based on an advanced ferrite material with low DCR, the 22 devices in the series will all be available in an octagonal shape, allowing mounting in any direction on the PCB. They permit designers to choose between components of different height but same footprint.

Other requirements, both shielded and non-shielded, can be accommodated by Bourns’ SDR and SRR ranges which include up to 70 standard round, square or oval component versions.

Line filters (common mode chokes) can also be used for CAN bus applications and are offered in sizes of 5mm and 7mm as DR221 and DR331, either in sector or bifilar windings up to 0.8A for different impedances.
