Avago Technologies is offering a new range of optocouplers in special stretched SSO6 and SSO8 packages that provide creepage/clearance distances of 8mm. With isolation voltage of up to 5000V, the devices can satisfy regulatory safety requirements such as IEC, UL and CSA.
The SSO6/SSO8 package is 50% smaller in size than the conventional DIP packages that are traditionally used for such devices. The components are available in both single- and dual-channel versions and with 3.3V and 5V logic levels.
This new range of products includes the ACPL-P314/W314 compact gate drive optocouplers, which consist of a GaAsP LED optically coupled to an integrated circuit with a power output stage. These devices are optimised for driving power IGBTs and MOSFETs used in motor control inverter applications.
The high operating voltage range of the output stage of the ACPL-P314/W314 devices provides the drive voltages required by gate-controlled devices; their voltage and current capabilities make them well suited for directly driving low- or medium-power IGBTs.
Available in both tape and reel (-500E) and tube (-000E) lead-free options, the ACPL-P314/W314 components are pending international regulatory standards approval under IEC/EN/DIN EN60747-5-2, UL 1577 and CSA 88324.
