Aimed at embedded automotive and industrial applications
The Blackfin ADSP-BF54x family signal processors from Analog Devices are aimed at increasingly demanding embedded automotive and industrial applications. The four new devices provide the processing power and rich peripheral set required by demanding converged applications while retaining the cost-effectiveness required in price-sensitive markets.
The code-compatible ADSP-BF542/BF544/BF548/BF549 devices operate at speeds of up to 600MHz, and feature a doubled internal bus bandwidth of up to 532Mbyte/s to meet the demands of system peripheral integration. In addition to their high operating speed and on-chip memory specifications of up to 260Kbyte, the devices integrate a rich set of peripheral options, including High Speed USB On-The-Go (OTG) with integrated PHY, ATAPI controller, and a NAND flash controller. Up to 152 general-purpose I/O ports are also supported.
An optional MXVR (Media Transfer) interface provides easy integration of automotive telematics and infotainment systems through a MOST network. Further options include up to two CAN 2.0B controllers, and an on-chip 18-/24-bit LCD controller.
The devices are equipped with two independent DMA controllers and include a synchronous interface for connecting to DDR-type memory and an asynchronous interface for use with SRAM, EEPROM, and NAND/NOR Flash.
In addition to automotive multimedia and Rear-Seat Entertainment systems, driver assistance and communications, the new series is also suitable for a wide range of industrial applications that require field upgradeability, local storage and display capabilities. Examples include factory automation, wireless instrumentation, wireless telecommunications radios and switching, and security systems.
The ADSP-BF54X family also incorporates Analog’s new Lockbox security technology, allowing developers to protect code and data integrity through authentication, and to safeguard confidentiality using encryption. This provides both IP protection within the product, and a platform for the Digital Rights Management (DRM) content protection required in devices such as media players.
The ADI CROSSCORE software and hardware development tools that support other Blackfin Processors also support the ADSP-BF54x family. These tools include the VisualDSP++ Integrated Development and Debug Environment (IDDE), emulators, and EZ-KIT Lite evaluation hardware.
