Resistors feature small size, high power, low resistance value and wide temperature range

Vishay’s Power Metal Strip technology allows the construction of current sense resistors with excellent specifications in terms of small size, low resistance value, tolerance, power handling and wide temperature range. The family includes three recent additions, the WSLP1206, WSLS2512 and WSLT2512 devices.



WSLP1206

The WSLP1206 is believed to be the first 1W surface mount, current sensing resistor in the small 1206 package. It features a very low (2mΩ to 50mΩ) resistance value range and high temperature performance up to +170°C.

The device’s small form factor makes it suitable for applications where size and weight are constrained. Examples include current sensing and pulse applications in DC/DC converters for computers, VRMs for laptops, Li-Ion battery safety and management; it also suits electronic automotive systems including engine controls, multi-media electronics, climate controls and anti-lock brakes.

In addition, the WSLP1206 features very low inductance values of 0.5nH to 5nH, excellent frequency response to 50MHz and low thermal EMF of less than 3μV/°C for improved noise performance.

The WSLS2512 offers improved resistance stability during operation, with a maximum resistance change of 0.5% through a 2000-hour lifetime. By comparison, the resistance stability of a typical current sensing resistor is worse than 1% through a 1000-hour workload.



WSLS2512

Available in values from 0.01Ω to 0.1Ω, the WSLS2512 operates across a temperature range of –65°C to +170°C and features low temperature dependence down to ±30ppm/°C. Inductance specifications range from 0.5nH to 2.0nH.

The WSLT2512 is a 1W device with an extremely wide operating temperature range from
–65°C to +275°C, believed to be the first of its type. This allows its use in extremely harsh environments, such as automotive engine controls, safety controls, multi-media electronics, climate controls and anti-lock brakes, and industrial oil/gas well drilling including down hole test and measurement equipment.

The WSLT2512 features a very low value resistance range of 10mΩ to 500mΩ, a tight tolerance down to ±0.5% and low TCR values down to ±75ppm/°C. Its robust specifications allow its use in harsh environments without sacrificing power rating or electrical performance.

All three devices feature Vishay’s proprietary rugged design with an all-welded construction and a solid metal alloy (nickel-chrome or manganese-copper) resistive element.

WSLP1206 Features

  • Low inductance values of 0.5nH to 2.0nH
