Power MOSFETs Combine Double Sided Cooling with Outstanding On-Resistance 
20V, 30V and 40V versions

New N-channel PolarPAKŪ power MOSFETs from Vishay Intertechnology combine double sided cooling packages with reduced on-resistance. The 20V to 40V devices enable smaller, more energy-efficient power electronics for servers, laptop computers, motherboards and telecom/datacom applications.



The Vishay Siliconix SiE8xxDF devices deliver up to 48% better on-resistance than competing devices, with figures as low as 1.4mΩ. Also providing improvements in on-resistance-times-gate-charge figures, these MOSFETs allow designers to reduce conduction and switching losses and hence cut overall system power consumption in their designs.

Four devices in the series are optimised for on-resistance, while two further MOSFETs are available with somewhat higher on-resistance. These are suitable for cost sensitive applications where an industry low level of on-resistance is not required or where minimising switching losses is more critical than achieving low conduction losses.

The 20V, 30V and 40V devices share the footprint area of a standard SO-8 package but, with a profile of just 0.8mm, are half the height of conventional devices. All six devices share a common footprint and pad layout, simplifying design-in of devices with new generations of silicon and facilitating product evolution.

The dual heat dissipation paths provided by double sided cooling construction allow high current densities in systems with forced air cooling, enabling more compact designs. Alternatively, it may be possible to reduce the number of MOSFETs required. The SiE8xxDF series provides designers of synchronous rectification, Point-of-Load converters and OR-ing applications with double sided cooling MOSFETs at the right levels of breakdown voltage for their systems.

The SiE8xxDF devices are designed for parallel use, lowering stray inductance and other undesirable printed circuit board effects.
