High Voltage Gate Drivers Save Space, Increase Reliability and Reduce Power Consumption
Half bridge ICs offer innovative common mode noise cancelling technique
Three High Voltage gate driver ICs (HVICs) from Fairchild Semiconductor offer printed circuit board area savings of at least 50% compared to solutions based on optocouplers or pulse transformers. The FAN7383, FAN7384 and FAN73832 also feature an innovative common mode dv/dt noise cancelling circuit that delivers excellent noise immunity.
The high performance of these half bridge HVICs ensures superior system reliability and energy efficiency when compared to similar devices on the market. The devices are suitable for driving MOSFETs and IGBTs in a wide array of consumer and industrial applications up to 600V. These include inverter motor drives, Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPSs) and electronic ballasts.
Supplied in 8-DIP (Dual In line Package), 8-SOP (Small Outline Package) and 14-SOP variants, the devices also include options for shut down, dead time control and short circuit protection.
The devices cut component count and enhance system reliability with the inclusion of advanced level shift circuitry that provides industry leading, high side driver operation with negative voltage swings of up to -9.8V (at VBS of 15V).
The FAN7383, FAN7384 and FAN73832 offer extremely low quiescent currents, and hence power consumption, a particularly important feature in motor applications. They are also highly stable, exhibiting extremely low temperature dependency. This allows their use in a wide range of applications and environments.
To further enhance efficiency, these HVICs feature a floating channel designed for bootstrap operation to +600V. They also increase reliability by providing Under Voltage Lock Out (UVLO) on both channels and an 11V to 20V supply range for VCC.
These lead (Pb) free devices meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020C and are RoHS compliant.
