Having emerged from seasonal inactivity, market price and delivery trends mirror the UK summer, i.e. mostly dull, grey and predictable. Suppliers continue to report record bookings and shipments in the Far East and Greater China but, with the exception of some Memory and High Performance Analog (HPA), this has had no detrimental impact on supply in Europe. Likewise, suppliers continue to predict extending lead times as the global macro-economic outlook remains positive. As Christmas builds start to rise, the Beijing Olympics less than a year ahead, the continued drive to digitise and increasing presence of electronics in automotive, suppliers are confident of improved business in the mid-term compared to the previous quarter. Distribution inventories remain fairly lean with lead times short, but Arrow has a strong, flexible supplier backlog that will enable us to react fast and support customers should the market start to heat.
So can we expect an Indian summer or an autumn wash out? Probably an element of both but with access to a truly global inventory, Arrow is well positioned to support its customers.
