Modules Bring M2M to the Mainstream

M2M (Machine to Machine) wireless applications can now be found in a range of industries, including vending, telemetry systems, logistics, healthcare and security. Telit provides a family of M2M products ranging from miniature BGA modules to complete packaged terminals for GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSDPA and CDMA connectivity.

The Telit product range is designed with form factor compatibility, allowing designers to implement a range of wireless functionality without board redesign. All products offer quad-band operation, Easyscan facilities for detection of available networks and jamming detection for increased security. A common TCP/IP protocol stack eases the integration task for designers.

The GM862 module provides GSM/GPRS connectivity in a rugged connector-based module. Designed to operate in an extended temperature range of -30°C to +80°C, the module can optionally be supplied with an embedded Python script interpreter, allowing custom programs to be run within the module itself.

A version of the GM862 equipped with a 20-channel, high sensitivity SiRFstarIII single chip GPS receiver can be used for applications such as fleet management, tracking and security.



The GE863 family offers all of the features and benefits of the GM862, in a low-profile (41.4mm x 31.4mm x 3.6mm) BGA package. By eliminating connectors and enabling the use of volume manufacturing techniques, the GE863 significantly reduces total solution cost, as well as product size. Industry standard SPI and I2C interfaces are provided, allowing connection to a wide range of peripheral devices such as sensors, cameras and displays.

A recent addition to the GE863 family, the GE863-PRO, includes a powerful ARM9 processor core. Supporting the Python and C++ programming languages, and Nucleus and Linux operating systems, the module allows execution of a broad range of higher level functions within the module. With 8MByte RAM and 2MByte Flash embedded, the module can significantly reduce total Bill of Material (BoM) costs and simplify logistics and supplier management.



For medium to high volume applications and mobile data devices, Telit offers the ultra-compact GE864 and GC864 range of products. These modules provide a complete GPRS solution in 30mm x 30mm x 2.8mm BGA and 30mm x 3mm7 x 2.8mm connectorised packages respectively.

Global coverage and high data rates can be attained using Telit’s highest-specification module, the UC864. Supporting UMTS/HSDPA, this module is backward compatible with the corresponding Telit GSM/GPRS products. Integrating an I2C and a Full Speed USB interface, a three-channel ADC and UDP support, the module provides facilities for Firmware Over The Air re-Flash (FOTA).
