Half-Pitch Phototransistor Optocouplers Provide Cost-Effective Isolation
AC and DC variants available
The ACPL-214 and ACPL-217 from Avago are single-channel half-pitch phototransistor optocouplers, designed for AC or DC input respectively. They are particularly suitable for use in sequence controllers, I/O interfacing for programmable controllers and computers, and signal transmission between circuits of different potentials and impedances.
The ACPL-214 is an AC-input device containing two Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) connected inversely in parallel, and optically coupled to a phototransistor. The ACPL-217 is a DC-input version that contains a single LED.
Both devices are supplied in a four-pin SO package. The input-output isolation voltage for both types of device is rated at 3000V RMS. Their response time is 2µs typically, while minimum Current Transfer Ratio (CTR) is 50% for the ACPL-217 and 20% for the ACPL-214 at input current of 5mA. Common mode rejection is 10kV/µs and the devices will satisfy all relevant CSA, UL and IE/EN requirements.
Current transfer ratio: 20% (ACPL-214), 50% (ACPL-217); at IF ±5mA, VCC 5V)
High input-output isolation voltage: 3,000V RMS
Fast non-saturated response time: typically 2μs at VCC 10V, IC 2mA, RL 100Ω)
