The TLE7188F and TLE7189F from Infineon are bridge driver ICs designed to control six external MOSFETs, forming the converter for high-current three-phase motor drives in the automotive sector. The TLE7189 derivative includes all of the features required to support Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) as defined by the IEC 61511 standard, for applications such as power steering. ![]() The devices combine features such as short-circuit detection and diagnosis with high output performance and typical automotive-specific requirements including 12V operation and full functionality even at battery voltages as low as 5.5V. The three high-side and three low-side output stages are powerful enough to drive MOSFETs with 400nC gate charge and 150ns fall and rise times. In addition to power steering, other typical applications include cooling-fan, water-pump and electro-hydraulic systems. The TLE7188F and TLE7189F are compatible with very-low-resistance N-channel MOSFETs, and include dual-charge pumps to satisfy even the highest current requirements, with 0% to 100% duty cycle operation for optimal motor control. Supporting PWM frequencies of up to 25kHz, they can be used in high-efficiency, low-loss designs. Three integrated current-sense amplifiers enable Field Oriented Control (FOC) and system diagnostics. The TLE7189F includes Overvoltage and UnderVoltage checking of the microcontroller supply and self testing for short circuits. Features
