Winner of Vishay’s New Step-Down Converter Demo Board

A Swedish reader of Arrow Innovation has won a demonstration board based on Vishay's latest synchronous step-down controller, the SiP12201. Mikael Nordell is a hardware designer with Radius Sweden AB.



Supplied in an MLP33-10 package, the SiP12201 requires minimal external components, reducing system size and simplifying design. Intended for use in DC/DC converter circuits that require output currents as high as 10A, it provides an adjustable output voltage ranging from 0.6V to 20V and can accept input voltages in the range of 4.2V to 26V.

Using a 500kHz switching frequency and N-channel MOSFETs, the SiP12201 achieves efficiency as high as 93%. Protection features include undervoltage lockout, converter output short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown. Internal soft start and a shutdown pin are also provided.

The device will find a wide range of applications, including distributed power systems, desktop and notebook computers, point of load regulation, DSP cores and automotive entertainment systems. It is specified for operation across the -40°C to +85°C temperature range and is RoHS-compliant.

For designers requiring increased robustness within their designs, the device is also available in an enhanced version, the SiP12201A, with 20ns break-before-make time (blanking interval) and extended (8ms) soft start time.
