Arrow Creates Nordic Subsystems Group

Arrow Electronics has created a new Nordic region team to support customers who are seeking complete electronic subsystems rather than discrete components. Covering products including visual displays, power supplies, wireless modules and industrial computers, the subsystems group currently numbers 20 people across the region.

Mats Andersson, who manages the team in the new role of subsystems marketing and engineering director, commented: “Arrow has created a unit that delivers an innovative response to assist customers as their requirements change. We believe we are the first distributor to offer this combination of focussed, system level service together with such a comprehensive logistics operation and breadth of technical support.”

Many companies that, in the past, developed their entire product from component level are now seeking to concentrate their engineering efforts where they can add the most value. These developers are seeking subsystems to integrate with their own core intellectual property but can face challenges with this new model.

Identifying suitable products, whether at component or subsystem level, requires an understanding of technical capability and an awareness of price and availability. This is a function increasingly provided by distributors for discrete components and is equally relevant to subsystems if companies are to minimise time to market.

Integrating subsystems from different sources can contain an element of risk. By working with Arrow’s team of subsystem specialists, the risk to the customer can be minimised. Assistance here derives from the general awareness the Arrow specialists have of interrelated subsystems or, more specifically, an understanding of the operating system software and drivers that link the various sections of the product.

Arrow’s team can also provide help beyond the core subsystem components, for example supplying antennas and cabling to enable prototype systems to be configured more quickly. Also where a discrete component-level solution is still required, customers also have access to the largest technical and sales support team in the Nordic countries for discrete semiconductor, passive, electromechanical and connector products.
