New MOSFET Relays Deliver 67% Board Space Savings

The latest SOP and SSOP-packaged MOSFET relays from Omron's G3VM family are just 1.5mm high and, with a footprint of only 2mm x 3.8mm, deliver board space savings of 67% compared with standard SOP packages.



Available for loads from 10V to 100V, these devices are suitable for any application in which space-saving is an important factor. Whether for Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and instrumentation, DSL customer premises equipment, security, medical ultrasound equipment, or automotive diagnostic systems, tiny relays reduce overall product size; allowing more features and components to be packed into the same area.

Designers have the added assurance of reliability. Circuit boards covered with relays, such as reed relays, require replacement if just a single device fails. G3VM series devices dramatically reduce the need for such repair operations, increasing end product reliability. Independent tests on the LED chips within these devices demonstrate a lifetime in excess of 100,000 hours (more than 11 years).

Even in applications which are not space-constrained, smaller size brings benefits in terms of lower capacitance and resistance. G3VM SOP and SSOP relays boast industry-leading values of C x R, starting at 2.5pF-Ω. On-resistance as low as 1Ω reduces output signal attenuation and off-state capacitance down to 0.6pF improves high-frequency performance.

The devices also deliver lower power dissipation and improved resistance to shock and vibration.
