| High worldwide demand necessitates careful planning | |||
Dot matrix LCD modules are amongst the key enabling products for a wide variety of today’s designs. The fast pace of technology change and high demand mean that engineers must work closely with suppliers and distributors to ensure access to the right products at the right time.  The Everbouquet LCD module range includes a wide variety of options, with diagonal screen sizes between 1.5in and 5.7in. Devices are available with three colour depths: 65,000; 262,000; and 1.67 million. All of the modules boast high contrast (typically 200:1, but in some cases up to 250:1) and brightness levels (up to 380cd/m² for the 5.7in module). The modules are based on amorphous silicon transmissive TFT displays, with LCD backlights and integrated driver electronics. Touch screen options are available for the 3.5in, 4.3in and 5.7in versions. Manufacturing plants that produce small size TFTs are currently working at or close to full capacity across the world, with demand typically scheduled well into 2008. Moreover, driver IC designs are evolving rapidly, creating a situation in which module specifications change much more rapidly than in other sectors of the displays market. Against this background, Arrow and Everbouquet work closely with customers to ensure that, as far as possible, orders that satisfy Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) requirements can be filled in a timely fashion. Given the state of the market, MOQs are in under constant review, so it is essential to maintain a constant dialogue to ensure that project timescales are not impacted by lack of availability of displays.
