Supporting a Growing Embedded World

Dear Reader

From home appliances to sophisticated automotive electronics, and from simple motor control deigns to complex industrial systems, a growing number of modern applications feature some form of embedded intelligence. What’s more, the very term ‘embedded’ covers a wider and wider remit as microcontrollers, microprocessors, DSPs, ASSPs, soft processors, system-level products and a variety of complementary technologies can all be considered to fall within the embedded space.

The sheer scale of the embedded arena was illustrated at last month’s Embedded World event in Nuremberg. This year’s event was both larger and busier than ever before and featured a broad variety of hardware in the form of component, module and platform vendors, a host of embedded software and tool companies, test and measurement suppliers and many other organisations with a foot in the embedded camp.

With such a rich choice of embedded solutions to choose from, the pressure on application developers to rapidly identify, select and assess the technologies that are best-suited to their own particular design has never been greater. Which is why working with a company that not only provides a broad portfolio of embedded technologies but also offers technical support capabilities at every step of the project development process is more important than ever.

Arrow is just such a company – we have made significant investments in both our embedded technology portfolio and our infrastructure to ensure that we can provide the products and support needed to satisfy the broadest possible range of embedded requirements. Our offering includes microcontrollers, microprocessors, DSPs, FPGA solutions featuring the latest soft processor technologies, and dedicated solutions for applications ranging from motor control to human machine interface (HMI) designs. We also offer a variety of reference platforms and support tools, many of which have been created by our own in-house engineering teams.

More recently we took the concept of embedded support a stage further with the launch of Arrow Advanced Embedded Solutions (AES). AES meets the product and support needs of customers looking for system-level and platform solutions and encompasses technologies that include displays, industrial computer products, solid state storage and power supplies, as well as wireless modules for machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. Operating systems – including the ‘de-facto standard’ Windows embedded technologies and support tools - also fall under the AES umbrella.

If you want to find out more about Arrow’s embedded capabilities a good place to start is this issue’s engineering feature, which is dedicated to embedded hardware and software. As always we hope you enjoy this and the rest of Arrow Innovation. Should you have any queries on any of the topics covered, please do not hesitate to contact us.
