High-Speed Low-Side Gate Drivers Offer Flexibility
 
Enable compact, efficient power supplies
Fairchild Semiconductor’s FAN31xx and FAN32xx high-speed low-side gate drivers provide a wide range of features and packaging options, offering designers a flexible solution for a variety of power supply requirements.

The FAN3100 (single 2A) and FAN32xx family (dual 2A and 4A) gate drivers are available in highly compact (2mm x 2mm or 3mm x 3mm) MLP, SOT or SOIC packaging. They are specialised amplifiers that drive the gate of a switching power MOSFET or IGBT to quickly turn it on or off according to the input signal.

The devices feature two inputs per channel, with a choice of CMOS or TTL threshold levels. Various combinations of inverting and non-inverting inputs are available, increasing flexibility and allowing implementation of enable functions.

The drivers provide typical propagation delays as low as 12ns, enabling switching at over 1MHz, for easy synchronisation and high efficiency. The dual drivers feature internal propagation delays matched to within 1ns, accommodating applications with critical timing and allowing channels to be connected in parallel, doubling the current capability for a single MOSFET.



With a maximum operating voltage of 18V, reverse current capability of at least 500mA and HBM ESD (Human Body Model ElectroStatic Discharge) rating of 4kV or higher, the devices provide high levels of robustness and reliability. Internal circuitry provides an UnderVoltage LockOut (UVLO) function that holds the output low until the supply voltage is within the operating range.

All of the devices use a lead-free (Pb-free) finish and are characterised for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. They are designed to meet the requirements of the European Union's RoHS Directive.
