Motor Driver Delivers High Power in a Small Package
For use with high current DC or BrushLess DC (BLDC) motors
The BTN7971B from Infineon is a fully integrated high-current half bridge for motor drive applications. It is part of the Infineon NovalithIC® family, containing one P-channel high-side MOSFET and one N-channel low-side MOSFET with an integrated driver IC, in a single package.
The power switches use vertical MOS technologies to reduce on-state path resistance, typically to 16mΩ. The P-channel high-side switch eliminates the need for a charge pump, thus reducing ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI).
The device is specified for currents of up to 70A with low quiescent current (7µA) and switching losses. It can achieve high Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) speeds of up to 25kHz.
Interfacing to a microcontroller is made easy by the integrated driver IC, which features logic-level inputs, diagnosis with current sense, slew-rate adjustment, dead-time generation and protection against overtemperature, overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and short circuits.
The BTN7971B provides a cost-optimised solution for protected high-current PWM motor drives with very low board space consumption. It is particularly suitable for use with high-current DC or BLDC drives used in applications such as windscreen wipers, cooling fans and seat belt pre-tensioners.
