Small, Spring Probe Connectors are Ideal for Portable Equipment

The new, P20 connectors use a sprung probe for contact and maintain a positive force against mating surfaces. The connectors are available with two, three, four and five contacts. Connection needs a very low mating force, is rapid, effortless and user-friendly and tolerates significant mating misalignments.

P20 connectors can handle up to 1A at a voltage of 12VDC; contact resistance is <50mΩ and insulation resistance exceeds 100MΩ. Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C and the connectors carry guarantees for 10,000 operations.

The height of two-way devices is 3.9mm, three- and four-way devices are 3.4mm and five-way units 4.5mm high. The spring force at normal working height is 1.1N for the two-way, 1.2N for the three- and four-way and 0.8N for the five-way connectors; all force ratings are ±20%.

Harwin is widely known as the supplier of the Hot Shoe range of spring loaded, positive contact connectors, but its P20 spring contact devices are much smaller. The P20 connectors suit price sensitive, high volume consumer applications, especially portable equipment that uses separate battery modules, and also suit data-transfer docking stations. Other sizes and configurations are available.
