Extensions to the STM32 meet market demand for USB and low density Flash
STMicroelectronics always seeks to meet its customers’ requirements, whether for more performance or specific features. As a result, it has introduced a new STM32-USB line to meet the demands of customers who like the STM32 Access line but also need a USB peripheral yet have no need for all the peripherals of the Performance Line.
STMicroelectronics is the leading supplier of devices based on the ARM Cortex M3, a core specifically developed for embedded applications. With its latest devices, it now offers approximately 60 types – and an accompanying software library to help designers save time and effort in their product development.
The STM32 family benefits from the architectural enhancements of the Cortex-M3, including the Thumb-2 instruction set that delivers improved performance and better code density, significantly faster response to interrupts and industry leading power consumption. The STM32 family offers a wide degree of freedom to MCU users. It is a complete 32-bit product range that combines high performance, low power, low voltage and real time operation, while maintaining full integration and ease of development.
Compatibility of pin assignments, peripherals and software across all STM32 devices is a core technical feature throughout this microcontroller family, extending confidence and a degree of future proofing to its users.
The new Access USB Line is a low-density, ARM-based 32-bit microcontroller with a 48MHz CPU frequency and an additional USB 2.0 FS peripheral compared to the basic Access Line. The package and memory size ranges from 16Kbyte to 128Kbyte in both 48-pin LQFP48 and 64-pin LQFP64 packages.
Like other devices in the family, the Access USB Line offers an easy integration path, excellent real time behaviour and power efficiency. Developers have extensive assistance via a comprehensive software library that can accelerate time to market and minimise cost of development. A wide range of application notes and examples also provide assurance to engineers new to designing with the STMicroelectronics microcontroller range.
