Hall Sensors Serve a Broad Range of Industrial Uses
 
Temperature and stress compensation confer extremely high accuracy
A new family of Hall effect switches and latches from Infineon aims at a broad range of industrial applications, including motor control and automation systems. The new TLI49x6 product family includes high-precision Hall effect switches and latches based on chopped Hall probes.



The new product range includes five devices, the TLI 4906 switch series and the TLI4946x range of latches, each available in various package options. All the devices have temperature and stress compensation features and resistance to electrical disturbance for highly accurate position detection.

Each device integrates a chopped Hall probe, bias generator, compensation circuits, oscillator and an output transistor. The bias generator supplies the Hall probe and the active circuits. The compensation circuits stabilise the response of the IC over temperature and reduce the impact of process variations. The sensor module therefore maintains constant switching thresholds regardless of temperature.

The use of active error compensation discards offset effects in the signal path and eliminates variations owed to mechanical stress in the package caused by moulding, soldering and thermal effects. Jitter is low, typically 1µs.

The ICs have an open-collector output stage with 20mA current sink capability. Other features include a wide operating voltage range from 2.7V to 18V with reverse polarity protection down to -18V and high ESD protection of ±4kV HBM (Human Body Model).

The TLI4906 switches have accurate switching thresholds for use at ambient operating temperatures up to +125°C. They are designed for industrial and consumer applications that require high-precision switching points for position sensing, such as security systems, alignment control, pushbuttons, keyboards, key switches and machine tools.

The TLI4946x latches are suitable for controlling brushless DC motors. They exactly detect the motor’s rotor position in products such as air conditioning systems, pumps, washing machines, DVD players and rolling shutters. In addition to effective control, the latches can provide index counting.

Both families are available in three-pin PG-SC59 or PG-SSO-3 packaging.
