Sand trimming process improves stability, reliability and overload performance
The RTO and D2TO series of thick film resistors from Vishay Intertechnology provide power ratings of up to 50W for applications ranging from motion control to industrial and medical power supplies.
The RTO 20 and RTO 50 power resistors are 20W and 50W types, respectively, and feature a wide resistance range of 0.01Ω to 1MΩ. They are available in both surface mount and through hole variants in compact TO-220 packages that are easy to mount.
The resistors exhibit low thermal resistance down to 2.6°C/W. Their resistance value is adjusted by sand trimming. This process avoids the hot spots often associated with laser trimming, resulting in better reliability, stability and overload capabilities.
RTO series devices are suitable for use in power and motion control; industrial and medical power supplies; test equipment; power conversion; current sensing and snubber circuits. They carry ratings for operation in the -55°C to +155°C temperature range.
Like the RTO family, Vishay Intertechnology’s D2TO devices have negligible inductance. They use standard TO263 (D2PAK) surface mount packaging and are available in 20W and 35W variants (D2TO20 and D2TO35). Resistance values range from 0.01Ω to 550kΩ with a tolerance specification of ±1%.
These RoHS compliant resistors are designed for use in power supplies and power conversion, current sensing, high-speed switching, snubbers and RF applications.
