Light Sensors and Emitters Expand Optoelectronics Range
Photodiode, IR LED and ambient light sensor
Vishay Intertechnology continues to broaden the scope of its optoelectronics product offering with the introduction of a number of light sensor and emitter components.
The TEMD5080X01 is a high-performance PIN photodiode with enhanced sensitivity in the 400nm wavelength band (300% higher than that of standard PIN photodiode chip technology), allowing it to show strong response to Ultra Violet (UV) radiation. Its overall spectral sensitivity spans from 350nm to 1100nm covering UV radiation, visible light and near-Infra Red (nIR) radiation.
Aimed particularly at industrial, medical and consumer systems where UV radiation needs to be detected (e.g. smoke detectors to blood analysis equipment), the TEMD5080X01 is qualified according to the AEC-Q101 automotive standard. The device is housed in a low profile, top-view, surface-mount device measuring 4.2mm x 5.0mm with a height profile of 1.1mm.
Simultaneously the company announced the introduction of two high-intensity 830nm surface-mount IR emitter devices. The VSMG2720 LED has an emission angle of ±60° and a radiant output of 14mW/sr at 100mA (150% greater than any other PLCC-2 packaged emitter on the market). The TSHG5510's emission angle is ±38° and its radiant intensity is 32mW/sr at 100mA. These emitters are highly suitable for illumination tasks in video security cameras (using CCD or CMOS image sensors) and for data transmission in wireless audio headsets.
CMOS and CCD based image sensors show significantly improved quantum efficiency levels when illuminated by 830nm light sources than with 870nm and 850nm emitters. The high power of the VSMG2720 and TSHG5510 will allow cameras to achieve better image performance with greater resolution. The devices features switching times of 15ns, meeting the requirements of high-modulation operation and supporting data transmission rates up to 16Mbit/sec.
These releases are complemented by a new ambient light sensor that allows automatic control of LCD brightness, enabling a number of advanced automotive driver comfort and safety features to be added into system designs.
The TEMD6200FX01 is a photodiode-based ambient light sensor housed in a 0805-sized surface-mount package. Utilising a patent-pending Vishay filter formula, the device virtually eliminates the effect of IR. It is qualified according to the automotive AEC-Q101 standard and has a Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of 3, enabling a floor life of 168 hours without absorption.
