High-Gain MMIC Device

The NXP BGU7003 is a wideband amplifier, Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) designed for high speed, low noise applications. The device comes in a plastic, leadless, six pin, extremely small outline (1.0mm x 1.0mm x 0.5mm) SOT891 package.

The MMICs are manufactured on the company’s proprietary 0.25μm QUBiC4X SiGe (Silicon Germanium) process technology, which greatly improves performance over their GaAs (Galium Arsenide) based counterparts without being expensive to produce. These highly integrated amplifier devices deliver high sensitivity levels, strong immunity against jamming signals and high linearity characteristics, while unit costs are kept low.



The BGU7003 design has been optimised for small footprint and low-power operation (drawing only 5mA), so these ICs are highly suited for use in GPS front-end modules. The very low Noise Figure (NF) of 0.80dB at 1.575GHz and strong linearity performance help improve overall sensitivity, which in turn leads to faster Time-To-First-Fix (TTFF) and better tracking.

These devices restore sensitivity, provide greater immunity against out-of-band cellular signals and reduce filtering requirements and overall cost. Additional gain amplifies the GPS signal and raises the onboard signal-to-jammer ratio. The GPS receiver can be placed close to the primary phone antenna, for the best GSM/UMTS performance, while the GPS antenna can be far away. This improves antenna-to-antenna isolation and results in higher performance.
