80MHz Real-Time Signal Controller Device

The XE166N series of 16-bit real-time signal controller devices from Infineon Technologies combines the integral microcontroller’s real-time capability and ease of use with the mathematical performance and data throughput of a digital signal processor.

The XE166N devices form powerful single-chip solutions suitable for a wide variety of embedded applications, based on Infineon’s popular and well-established C166 semiconductor architecture.



With processing speeds of 80MHz, the devices have up to 320KBytes of Flash memory and 34KBytes of RAM at their disposal. Among the XE166N series peripherals are multiple capture/compare 6E units and two fast 10-bit analogue-to-digital converter modules with 600ns conversion rates. They have high-speed I/Os, such as USIC, LIN, SPI and MultiCAN.

The devices offer a comprehensive feature set for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 and 3 applications. This includes a memory protection unit, memory checker and error correction for both Flash memory and SRAM. The XE166N’s Device Access Port (DAP) two-wire JTAG replaces the five-wire JTAG normally used by other ICs.

In a QFP64/100 package, the XE162N/XE164N series have an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.

Free DAvE and a free Tasking Classing Compiler, plus emulator and debugging tools and a complete DSP library are readily available to support the device.
