High-Performance Isolated IGBT/MOSFET Drivers

Vishay Semiconductor’s Optoelectronics group has broadened its optocoupler portfolio with two new IGBT/MOSFET drivers. The 2.5A VO3120 and 0.5A VO3150A offer the widest operating voltage, high ambient operating temperatures and low power consumption.

Vishay's VO3120 and VO3150A enable better thermal management and greater design flexibility in motor drives, induction-stove tops, industrial inverters, power supplies and other high-voltage applications.



These two IGBT/MOSFET drivers contain an LED optically coupled to an integrated circuit whose power-output stage has an operating voltage range of 15V to 32V. The voltage and current supplied by these drivers make them highly suitable for directly driving IGBTs with ratings up to 800V at 50A for the VO3120 and 20A for the VO3150A.

These high supply voltages allow the optically isolated IGBT/MOSFET drivers to drive larger modules that would otherwise require a two-sided power supply. This gives designers a greater degree of choice in selecting power components.

With a maximum ambient operating temperature of +110°C and a power consumption of only 2.5mA, the VO3120 and VO3150A simplify thermal management by permitting designers to place them in closer proximity to IGBTs and to use smaller heat dissipation mechanisms.
