The Micrel MIC4742 is a high-efficiency PWM buck (step-down) regulator that provides a dual current output of 2A.
Targeting applications such as wired and wireless broadband communication equipment, printers, HD set top boxes and computing peripherals, the regulator operates at 2MHz. A proprietary internal compensation technique allows a closed loop bandwidth of over 200kHz. The Micrel MIC4742 has a wide junction operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.
The low on-resistance internal p-channel MOSFET of the MIC4742 allows power efficiencies of over 92% to be achieved.
This highly integrated device reduces the external component count and eliminates the need for an expensive current-sense resistor.
The MIC4742 operates from an input voltage between 2.9V and 5.5V; the output can be adjusted down to 0.6V. It can run with a maximum duty cycle of 100% making it suitable for use in low dropout conditions.
The devices are available in exposed pad, 16 pin, 3mm x 3mm MLF and ETSSOP-16 packages. Micrel also offers an evaluation kit to support this product (MIC4742YML EV).
