Simpler design through more integrated functionality
The NCP1652 from ON Semiconductor is a highly integrated controller IC for implementing power factor correction and isolated step-down AC/DC power conversion in a single stage. Designers will be able to produce power systems at lower cost and with greatly reduced part counts.
The NCP1652 offers three ways to increase system efficiency levels. It incorporates a secondary driver in the secondary side with adjustable non-overlap delay for controlling a synchronous rectifier switch, an active clamp switch in the primary or both.
In addition, the controller features ON Semiconductor’s proprietary Soft-Skip technology to reduce acoustic noise at light loads.
Other features include a high-voltage startup circuit, voltage feed-forward, brown-out detector, internal overload timer, latch input and a high-accuracy multiplier.
The single stage is based on a fly-back converter and is designed to operate in continuous conduction mode or discontinuous conduction mode.
This controller is highly optimised for notebook adapters, battery chargers and other off-line applications with power requirements between 75W and 150W.
It is offered in SOI-16 and SO-20 package options.
