Innovative mechanism prevents connector from opening even if cable is lifted
Omron Components has extended its popular range of low-profile Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) connector models. All the new additions feature the company’s patented rotary backlock mechanism that gives a more reliable termination in fewer production steps.
The ultra-thin XF3A is designed for 0.12mm thick FPC and has a mounted height of just 0.6mm. It is initially being offered in 12 and 24-way formats on a 0.3mm pitch, with 8, 11 and 18-way versions under development. Also new, is the 0.3mm pitch XF3B family. This has a 0.2mm thick FPC connection, with a profile of just 0.9mm. It is available in 35 and 67-way formats.
For wider pitch designs, there is the XF2W on a 0.5mm pitch. This is just 1.1mm high when fully mated. Overall footprint has also been reduced compared to previous product generations, as the XF2W is just 3.5mm deep. It has initially been released in 16, 20, 24 and 64-way configurations.
For applications calling for a 0.4mm pitch FPC, as favoured in some handheld designs, Omron has introduced the XF2K, with a profile when assembled of just 0.9mm. Initially released in 57-ways, it is just 4.0mm deep.
The patented rotary locking latch utilised by these components is independent of the FPC socket, so that the rotary locking latch does not disconnect if the FPC is lifted. This guarantees high reliability, offering huge advantages over competing connector solutions. Using a XF2x/XF3x connector means the mounted FPC will not come off, even if excess force is applied to it. The four-sided housing prevents FPC displacement.
